About Us

Every day brings new challenges and opportunities and I am very happy to be a part of such a fantastic learning community and associated with such a strong teaching staff. I am grateful for the many cards and letters I have received highlighting the strengths of the academy.

We have been designated a National Lead Support School and have been independently reviewed by an OFSTED inspector and accredited outstanding status under the new OFSTED framework. In addition we have nationally recognised facilitation status for closing the attainment gap between children on the Free School Meals register and their peers.

We are a showcase academy for developing creativity within the curriculum and renowned for our many sporting triumphs. I hope you find this website informative and useful. We have a relentless drive to improve the life chances of all of our learners and our in-school motto is “Challenge Everything”. We aim to develop creative, free thinking and confident young people, adept at communicating.

Following a visit on 5th February 2016 from Catharine Cowan, the Assistant Head Teacher of Darrick Wood Infant Academy, we received the very kind comments below:

“Thank you so much for organising my visit today – it has been so useful for me to see life in the Junior School. Please pass on my thanks to the staff involved. It was such a pleasure to visit and meet such wonderful staff and children. The Head Boy and Girl were GREAT as they took me on a tour of the school and explained what a school day at Pickhurst was like. They were extremely positive about all aspects and talked enthusiastically about the school.  The staff were welcoming and friendly and the children in the lessons I saw were more than happy to talk to me about their work. ALL the children I met were so polite and well-mannered, a real credit to the school.”
