Year 5 Homework

HOMEWORK
Numeracy

Homework will either be a MyMaths task or a piece of work set by your child’s group teacher. It will usually consolidate the work done in class that week, however it may also be used to assess the children’s knowledge on a subject that they are about to begin.

Homework will be set on a Wednesday and be expected to be finished/ handed in by the following Wednesday.

Literacy

Comprehension or Grammar and Punctuation work is given on alternate weeks. Homework will be set on a Wednesday and be expected to be finished/ handed in by the following Wednesday.

Spellings – children will have spellings set by their group teacher following a certain spelling pattern. New spellings will be given out on Wednesdays and be tested the following Wednesday.

Reading/Bug Club – Children have allocated books to read and answer questions about on Bug Club. Children should also be encouraged to read their own choice of book on days when they are not completing a Bug Club activity. Reading a range of text is really important to help the children develop their writing skills.

Bug club should be done 2 or 3 times a week for a 20 minutes session each. On other days at least 20 minutes should be carried out and recorded at least once a week in the children’s reading record.
