It has recently been reported in the news that there is an updated version on Snapchat that is more intrusive and could potentially put users at risk. Whilst we know that primary school children should not be registered for Snapchat, the truth is, there may be children who have registered for this app. For your information we would like to share this recent notification received.
Last week SnapChat, used regularly by many children and young people, launched a new feature. SnapMaps allows users to see the location of their contacts. This feature allows others to accurately pinpoint where you are. There are three possible privacy settings:
- Ghost mode, where only you can see your position;
- My Friends mode, where any contact can see your location; and
- Select Friends mode, just those who you choose can see you
ChildNet have posted a thorough explanation of SnapMaps and how to ensure users stay safe.
Well worth a read to share with anyone you know who uses the app. Further reading: Introducing SnapMaps (ChildNet)
I would like to thank Lucia A (4W) who held a cake sale at the infant school fair. She raised a total of £92.60! Lucia has very kindly split the proceeds between the infant and junior schools, thereby donating £46.30 to Pickhurst Academy. Well done and thank you Lucia. We will be speaking to Lucia to confirm whether she would like the donation to go to the PTA or her year group charity.
Our Year 6 performances of Aladdin start next week. Please get your ticket orders in no later than next Tuesday, 11th July, so tickets can be returned to you in time. The children have worked really hard rehearsing for this and we can’t wait to see the finished performance!
The weather seems to be improving and I would therefore remind you to apply sunscreen to your child before they arrive at school and provide them with a sunhat and water bottle.
