Dear Parents & Carers,

I am honoured to be appointed as the new principal for Pickhurst Academy. I am absolutely delighted to have started in post and consider it a privilege to have been appointed. Most of you have already met me at some point already, and the children all know who I am as I have been at Pickhurst for almost 7 years now.

I am very proud to be the new Principal and to be leading such an outstanding school. I have the very highest expectations of all the staff and children, and I know, by working together to raise standards in every area, we will ensure all children achieve their full potential. I believe parents make an important contribution to children’s achievements at school, and I want to develop the relationship between the school and parents for everyone’s benefit.I will be holding a number of events over the next term, including coffee mornings, informal workshops, meetings with parents and ‘Meet the Teacher’ evening, which will provide an opportunity to meet more of you and discuss the building of an even more successful partnership. These meetings will take place at different times, which I hope will enable most families to attend.

If you haven’t already done so, please do take a moment to watch our brand new promotional video, which outlines some of the fantastic provision that is on offer to the children here at Pickhurst:

Once again, I have thoroughly enjoyed visiting classrooms and lessons this week. It was very interesting to listen to conversations in some of our Y4 science lessons this week; the children were investigating ‘sound’ and using our outdoor learning spaces to enrich their learning.Y3 were exploring the theme of what makes us British, and how these special qualities should be celebrated. I particularly liked watching a class discussion, in Y3, about the importance of ‘respect’ and ‘acceptance’ – the children were very mature and I was impressed by the thoughts that were being shared so sensitively and politely.
