Year 3 at Pickhurst Academy is the start of an incredible learning journey where every child is provided with the best opportunity to develop as a conscientious and accomplished individual. We emphasise the importance of cooperation within the year group to ensure that the transition into the school and throughout the first year of Junior school life is as smooth as possible. We feel passionately about the importance of teamwork; encouraging children to support one another in their learning and respect each other’s abilities and opinions. We expect this respect to be present in all areas of school life so that every child feels like an important and valued member of our team. This understanding brings confidence and positivity within our year group, allowing children the opportunity to become more independent in their learning in a comfortable and respectful environment.
In Year 3 we have very high expectations of the standard of work we want to see produced. The children are given a number of opportunities to develop and apply their skills across the curriculum. A fantastic staff team and a number of outstanding tools and facilities including the library, forest school, iPads and our exciting excursions provide the children with the best opportunity to develop these skills. In return, we expect Year 3 children to apply themselves in everything they do and to only produce work that is to the best of their ability.
We hope that the attitude and expectations generated in and carried throughout Year 3 provide the children with the perfect grounding for a fun, positive and hugely rewarding Junior School life.
