Governing Board
Our Governing Board
Mrs Rampton
I am proud to be recently appointed Executive Headteacher at Pickhurst Academy and am looking forward to working with the Pickhurst Academy Local Governing Board as the school continues its journey.
I have been Headteacher at Darrick Wood Infant & Nursery School for the past 14 years and have served on their Local Governing Board, the entire time from when I first joined as Deputy Head in 2006.
Previous to this, I have been in Education for 24 years as a class teacher,
SENCo, Senior Leader, Deputy Headteacher and Headteacher. I have also supported other schools with SEND and safeguarding. I am very proud of all of our achievements here at Pickhurst Academy. It will be a great pleasure working with such a committed staff team and such wonderful children and their families.

I am thoroughly enjoying my role as Parent Governor at Pickhurst Academy. Primarily I wanted to get involved because I am mum to three boys within the Trust and I want them to have the opportunity to thrive and reach their potential at Pickhurst Academy.
I hope to be able to represent other parents to make sure that school provides the best possible opportunities and experiences for all our children.
I have been a Director of Finance for over 15 years now, specialising in the education sector providing Teacher CPD training, support and accreditations for schools non-curricular provisions. I hope that my experience can prove useful as a member of the Governing body.

I have lived in West Wickham all my life and have always known Pickhurst Academy to be a high-performing school. Both my children enjoyed their time at the nursery based on the Pickhurst grounds, and I am excited to have been given the opportunity to serve as a Community Governor.
Having spent most of my career in the Finance Division at Morgan Stanley, predominantly in Capital Management and Relationship Management positions, I am now the Finance Manager of a local independent school. I am a qualified Accountant and have also gained managerial and operational experience during my working life.
I believe that primary school is the most important stage of a child’s education; the firm foundations laid down at this age give children the tools and confidence to make successful choices about their own futures. As a Governor, I hope to be able to contribute to the ongoing success of the school and thus enable the children of Pickhurst Academy to become the best versions of themselves.

What does the Local Governing Board do?
Outstanding local governance is vital to the continued success of our school. Our Local Governing Board (LGB) carries much of the responsibility for setting the strategic direction of our school and for monitoring all aspects of performance.
Governors are committed individuals from the local community, who share their knowledge, experience, expertise and skills to support and challenge the Headteacher/Principal and Senior Leaders; playing a part in improving pupil outcomes and to enhance the opportunities for our young people and families within the community.
Our governors come from all walks of life and backgrounds. This diversity is a crucial component of the success of the school as our governors bring a wide range of different perspectives.
The role of the LGB is a strategic one, the three core functions of the LGB are to:
- Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Hold the Headteacher/Principal to account for the educational performance of the Academy School and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and
- Oversee the financial performance of specified grants of the Academy School and make sure its money is well spent (PPG, NTP and sports grant).
Linked Governor Roles
Each governor is assigned a linked role to understand, oversee, monitor and report on specific aspects of the School Development Plan (SDP). Link governors enrich the whole LGB’s understanding of their particular area and contribute to informed decision making.
We also consider that link governors help the LGB develop positive links with staff and create a visible and professional profile within the school.
There are additional link governors who have specific roles in supporting the governing body to fulfil its statutory responsibilities in areas such as Child Protection, Safeguarding, and Special Educational Needs.
