Religious Education Quality Gold Mark and Assessor Feedback

At Pickhurst Academy we provide teaching of Religious Education for all pupils, in accordance with the Bromley syllabus. Our aim is to promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils and of society, and prepare pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.

At our school, Religious Education (RE) provides pupils with opportunities to explore and understand a range of religious and non-religious worldviews. Following the Bromley Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education, our curriculum helps children to develop knowledge, understanding and respect for the beliefs, values and traditions of others.
Through engaging lessons, discussion, stories, artefacts, celebrations and opportunities for reflection, pupils learn about Christianity alongside other religions and worldviews, including Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism. We also learn about famous and inspirational people from around the world, exploring their lives, achievements and the contributions they have made to society. Children develop an understanding of different traditions and cultures and are encouraged to appreciate the rich diversity of the world around them.
Our assemblies provide further opportunities for children to celebrate and recognise the achievements of those within our own school community and the wider community. These experiences help pupils to develop positive values, respect for others and a sense of belonging. We aim for RE to contribute to pupils’ wider personal development by helping them become curious, respectful and open-minded individuals who are able to engage positively with the diverse world around them. Through RE, children are encouraged to ask thoughtful questions, consider different perspectives and reflect on their own ideas, experiences and values.
It is your right to withdraw your child from Religious Education lessons or collective worship. If you wish to do so, you should speak to the Principal of the Academy, in confidence, who will make the necessary arrangements.

My name is Max, and I am really proud to be an RE Ambassador at Pickhurst Junior.

I wanted to become an RE Ambassador because I find learning about different religions very interesting and fun. I enjoy finding out about what other people believe, their traditions, celebrations and how religion is an important part of their lives. I think RE is important because it helps us understand and respect people who may have different beliefs from our own. It also teaches us that even though we might be different, we can still have lots of things in common.

I am a very helpful person and I am always eager to help others. As an RE Ambassador, I will do my best to help other pupils learn about different religions and make RE lessons enjoyable and interesting. I am really excited about this role and I hope I can make a positive difference at Pickhurst Junior.
